A capable right-hand opening batsman who could also keep wicket, Punjabi toured Pakistan in 1954-55 and was Pankaj Roy's opening partner in all five Tests. However he did little of note, scoring 164 runs (16.40) with 33 in the second Test at Bahawalpur as his best. During that innings, he and Roy put on 58 runs, their best opening stand of the series. He and Roy had another good opening stand of 52 runs in the next Test at Lahore. On the tour, Punjabi scored 393 runs (23.11). He was not picked again for his country. Cricinfo staff
