Peter Siddle quickly erased any chance South Australia had of saving the match with three wickets in an over and five for the innings as Victoria eased to a 270-run victory. The Redbacks' batting troubles over the past couple of years show no signs of improvement and they set a record for the lowest score against the Bushrangers in Adelaide.

The Redbacks started day four with a mountain to climb and it didn't take long for the slide to begin. Eight runs had been added when Siddle struck, taking Matthew Elliott (10), Nathan Adcock (0) and Graham Manou (0) in five balls to leave them at 7 for 35. Elliott nicked to David Hussey at second slip, a dismissal repeated by Manou, and Adcock's horror match in his first season in charge got worse when Siddle hit his middle stump.

Jason Gillespie held on for almost an hour and a half before becoming Siddle's fourth victim and his fifth came when he trapped Ryan Harris lbw. It was a fine reward for an accurate spell on a worn surface and he finished with 5 for 27. Bryce McGain, the legspinner, ended the game by removing Dan Cullen as the Redbacks failed to make it to lunch.

Things got even worse for South Australia after the match when Mark Cosgrove was reprimanded for swearing in the dressing room after being dismissed first ball in the second innings - he was lbw not playing a shot. He apologised for his behaviour and will meet with the state's high performance management this week to explain his actions. The episode continued a difficult time for Cosgrove, who was suspended for being untidy while at the Centre of Excellence and underwent ankle surgery in the pre-season.
