Cameron White faces six weeks out with a broken foot after he collided with Queensland's returning hero Lee Carseldine, who set up the Bulls' 50-run win with two wickets in two balls. Chasing Queensland's 243 Victoria never recovered from the loss of Brad Hodge for 50 and White, who retired hurt on 14, and they conceded the bonus point to complete a miserable night.

White immediately left the field after he took off for a quick single, ran into the bowler Carseldine, who was darting across the line to collect the ball, and twisted awkwardly despite the seemingly innocuous contact. After the game Hodge said White had been carrying a niggle in his right foot and the fracture would leave him out of action for six weeks. He will have surgery on Monday and is likely to be out of the frame for a recall to Australia's one-day side during the Chappell-Hadlee series in December.

It was a depressing end for Victoria, who had been pleased to restrict the Bulls to 243 after Clinton Perren got the home side away to a solid start. Perren made 60 and combined with Craig Philipson (42) for an 87-run stand but Queensland's progress slowed when both were run out.

Victoria's debutant allrounder John Hastings (3 for 50) picked up three late wickets to give the Bushrangers some momentum but the Bulls bowlers proved even more effective. Grant Sullivan and Chris Swan both struck early before Hodge, fresh from an unbeaten 286 in this week's Pura Cup match, steadied the visitors.

Things changed again when Queensland called on Carseldine, who had not played a state match since January 2004 having had a titanium disc inserted into his spine during major back surgery. The titanium was tested in his first over as he dug in a short one to Hodge, who pulled straight to Shane Watson at deep square leg. The next ball Carseldine jammed in a quick lifter to Andrew McDonald, who fended behind off his gloves and Victoria were 5 for 95.

Adam Crosthwaite tried his best with 43 and Gerard Denton hit a late 35, but Queensland's spinners Chris Simpson and Aaron Nye kept things tight and secured the bonus point when Denton holed out off Simpson. Queensland's win was especially impressive after their captain Jimmy Maher was a late withdrawal with a hamstring injury, leaving the Bulls with 14 of their 25 contracted players unavailable through injury or Australian duty.
