Shane Warne, who took 6 for 80 in the second innings, was found not guilty of dissent after being charged for an incident in the final over of day three. Warne was reported to the match referee Mike Proctor under Law 1.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for his reaction to a turned-down appeal for a close-in catch from the nightwatchman Daren Powell.

However, Warne was not punished at a hearing attended by Warne, Proctor, the on-field umpires Billy Bowden and Aleem Dar, the third umpire Steve Davis, Ricky Ponting and the Australia manager Steve Bernard. Cricket Australia did not release any more details about the hearing or the incident.

Warne was charged on day four and after play told Reuters: "Every team in the world appeals, when you think someone's out you appeal. I wouldn't say we over appeal at all. If you don't ask you don't get." The prospect of a hearing did not worry Warne as he moved to within one wicket of equalling Dennis Lillee's record of 85 wickets in a calendar year, which he set in 1981.
