 Profile

Luke Sutton is tidy wicketkeeper and useful batsman who has had spells with Somerset and Derbyshire before moving to Lancashire in 2006. Sutton played for Somerset in 1997 and 1998 before making his debut for Derbyshire in 2000. He rather unexpectedly found himself with the tough task of leading Derbyshire for the 2004 season. Dominic Cork, the previous captain, left for Lancashire, and Michael Di Venuto, the intended captain for the summer, was forced to stay home in Australia with an injured back. But after two seasons in charge, Sutton left to join Lancashire where Warren Hegg's retirement had left a void. He enjoyed an impressive first season at Old Trafford, despite missing six weeks with a broken thumb, and scored two centuries including a career-best 151 not out, against Yorkshire, the highest ever score by a Lancashire wicketkeeper.
