David Winckworth was a leading player in North America in the 1840s, playing for Canada in their first three internationals against USA in 1844 and 1845 and then, after moving to Detriot, turning out for the USA against Canada in 1846. He was reputed to be a solid opening batsman and a quick round-arm bowler. In the first USA-Canada match he top scored in both innings and in the three games in 1844 and 1845 took 23 wickets.
