Profile
Barbados-born left-arm fast bowler Elvis Reifer was signed as a 23-year-old by Hampshire in 1984 despite having no first-class appearances to his name, and it was a gamble which backfired. He started promisingly with 8 for 108 in the match against Cambridge University, but it was downhill from there and his 41 Championship wickets cost 41.53 each, although his one-day form was more promising. He was not retained, and in fact only played one more first-class game, when he bowled 12 wicketless over as a third-change bowler for Barbados.
