The Indian Under-19 side continued their stranglehold on the series against their England counterparts on the first day of the third Test at Jamshedpur. With the series already in the bag after comprehensive wins in the first two Tests, the Indians fielded a second-string side, including nine players who hadn't played in either of the earlier games. Yet, they finished the day in charge, on 283 for 2, after choosing to bat.

The hero of the day was Cheteshwar Pujara, a 17-year-old opener, who batted through the entire day and finished with an unbeaten 162, scored off 281 balls with 20 fours. His opening partnership with Parvez Aziz (58) was worth 135, while the third-wicket stand between Pujara and M Tewari had already yielded 87. The England team tried out eight bowlers but only two of them, David Griffiths and Joe Denly, managed to get among the wickets.
