RP Singh, the Indian fast bowler, has said he will return to action in the Deodhar Trophy from March 14 after recovering from the hamstring injury which ruled him out of the CB series in Australia. Pankaj Singh, the fast bowler who also travelled with the team to Australia, will take two weeks to recover from a side strain. The two seamers had their fitness tests at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore on March 4.

RP had an extended session comprising of several laps around the Chinnaswamy Stadium, repeat sprints and six overs of bowling while Pankaj, who was originally scheduled to have his test on March 3, had a restricted session.

"I am feeling fine and would be playing Deodhar Trophy," RP told Cricinfo. RP had already visited the NCA in February as part of his rehabilitation programme.

Deodhar Trophy, the zonal limited-overs tournament, will be played at four centers in South Zone and RP, who plays for Central Zone, was confident he wouldn't face any fitness issues.

RP played for India last in the final Test against Australia in Adelaide, pulling out of the Test after bowling four overs in the first innings. With Sreesanth and Munaf Patel injured, Pankaj Singh earned a selection in the Test squad but did not play a single international game.

According to the new rules of the Indian board, players who have been out of action for a month will have to prove their fitness at the NCA ahead of any series. The players who only featured in the Test series in Australia have been at the NCA over the last couple of days. Sourav Ganguly, the last player to have his fitness Test, will be checking in tomorrow and will have RP for company.
