Alex Wakely made two fifties for Northants 2nd XI as a 15-year-old and went on to impress on the England Under-19 trip to Malaysia in 2006-07, making 108 off 140 balls against Sri Lanka - and then followed with two wickets, and also made a brace of fifties against Malaysia. "Alex has all the talent in the world," said his coach at Bedford School, Derek Randall. "He's got every shot in the book. His signature stroke is the straight drive off the back foot - head steady, standing tall. Like Greg Chappell. But he needs to develop that inner steel. Learn to tough it out when the chips are down so you can cash in when the going's good." He was appointed England's captain for the 2008 Under-19 World Cup.
