Daniel Redfern is a promising young batsman and is coming up the ranks at Derbyshire. He made his second team debut in July 2006 against Lancashire and two months later, still aged 16, he was playing for the first team in their Pro40 against Worcestershire.

He returned to the firsts midway through 2007 after more impressive performances in the seconds. He played three successive Championship matches and showed some promise without passing 50 and he also scored an explosive 32 from 25 balls in the Pro40 against Kent Spitfires. He also bowls occasional, but improving, off-spin and already has first-class victims under his belt.

A modest person, he takes everything in his stride, is thankful for his first-team opportunities and continues to work very hard at his game. It is his ambition to one day play for England and he is currently a regular in the Under-17s, having first played for them in 2006, aged 16. He also earned a call-up into the Under-19s in 2007 for their series against Pakistan before agreeing a new two-year contract with Derbyshire. These are early days, but a positive future is his for the taking.
