MCC in Uganda 2007-08

Dalrymple leads MCC to Uganda

The MCC will send a strong squad to Uganda for a six-match tour with England allrounder Jamie Dalrymple captaining the side. Joining Dalrymple on the tour will be fellow Glamorgan cricketers Alex Wharf and David Harrison, together with a number of familiar faces from the county circuit including Mark Wagh, Ben Scott and Bilal Shafayat.

MCC's opponents on their two-and-a-half week tour will include the full Uganda national side and Kenya Under-19s, who will travel to Uganda at MCC's expense. The tour was originally scheduled to visit both Kenya and Uganda but had to be rescheduled following the troubles that stemmed from Kenya's national elections.

"This will be my first MCC tour and I'm really looking forward to it," said Dalrymple. "It's a slight shame we won't be visiting Kenya, the country of my birth, but I'm still raring to go and looking forward to playing good cricket with a different group of players. I am pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to MCC's work in encouraging greater interest in cricket around the world and to bring something positive to the region at a difficult time.

"It's a privilege that, as a professional cricketer, you have the opportunity to visit new places and play in different conditions. After some time out from the game at the end of last season, and a move to Glamorgan, I will be hoping that this MCC tour of Uganda gives me a good springboard on which to build for an important season ahead."

"We expect the cricket in Uganda to be of a high standard and that's why we've selected a tour party that is littered with first-class cricketers and quality throughout," added John Stephenson, the MCC's head of cricket. "With someone of Jamie's pedigree as captain, I'm sure the tour will be a great success."
