Hooper looks to youth after West Indies lose out

The West Indies will give a run-out to some of the players who have not yet featured in the World Cup as they bow out of the tournament against Kenya tomorrow.

The Windies were finally eliminated from the preliminary stage by New Zealand's five-wicket win over Canada.

West Indies captain Carl Hooper hinted he will now turn to youth at the De Beers Diamond Oval in Kimberley, as he explained why they have not yet fielded players like Marlon Samuels and Jermaine Lawson.

"It was unfortunate that we were unable to play some of the players in our squad," Hooper admitted. "Practically all the games we played were a must-win situation for us and we decided to stick to the experienced players.

"I would think we will be looking at the possibility of playing the players that haven't participated in the World Cup yet very seriously, now that we are out."

Kenya, who have already qualified for the Super Sixes, could be without all-rounder Thomas Odoyo. The 24-year-old has a groin strain and may not be risked in his team's final group game.

"Odoyo is a concern but we will take a decision when we select the team just before the start of the game," coach Sandeep Patel said.

"If he is unable to play it will be a big blow for us because he is one of our better players, but we still have to go out there and try and win the game."
