Profile
George Carew was a right-hand batsman from Barbados who scored a brilliant 107 for West Indies against England at Port-of-Spain in 1947-48. Chewing gum and wearing a felt hat, he put on 173 for the first wicket with Andy Ganteaume. He did little in his other three Tests but scored consistently for Barbados, where he was a well-known character and ran a taxi business. Wisden Cricketers' Almanack
