 Profile

A relatively late bloomer, Nick Jewell has been the only man to play every Pura Cup game for Victoria in the past three seasons. His first century was 143 against New South Wales in the draw at Lismore in 2005-06 and he finished the campaign with 89 in the final loss to Queensland and the most runs for the state. The next year he was again one of the Bushrangers' best, scoring 742 at 41.22 and reaching triple-figures twice. The highlights were scarcer in 2007-08 - his career-best 188 against Queensland was the standout - but he still managed 694 runs at 34.70 and picked up 99 in the second innings of the final loss to New South Wales. Jewell is a mature, tall and patient batsman but his limited technique has stopped him forcing his way into Victoria's strong one-day line-up. One of the most recent men to play first-class cricket and AFL football - Jewell played one game for Richmond in 1997 - he is also the son of Tony Jewell, the former Richmond footballer.
