Profile
The back-up New South Wales gloveman, Daniel Smith usually gets his opportunities only when Brad Haddin is injured or away. However, in 2006-07 he was included for a Pura Cup match as a specialist batsman alongside Haddin, making 17 and 4. Haddin's World Cup call-up allowed Smith three more games at the end of the season, including the final loss to Tasmania, and he impressed with 51 from 33 balls against Queensland. Smith also featured in England's tour match against New South Wales when he made 45, but he added only one Ford Ranger Cup match and one Twenty20 outing to his tally. A top-order batsman for his club side Western Suburbs, Smith appeared in the state and national under-19 sides and honed his skills at the Academy in 2001. Cricinfo staff June 2007
