Australian youngsters crush Kenya

A virtually full-strength Kenya side was whitewashed in the three-match one-day series against an Australian Academy side at Nairobi Gymkhana.

The gulf between the Kenyans and a well-drilled opposition was considerable, and only the third game was anything resembling a contest.

In the opening match Kenya were put in and struggled to 143 in 43 overs, and then Academy openers Tim Paine (66) and Shaun Marsh (70) knocked off the runs in 28 overs to secure a ten-wicket win.

The second game was just as one-sided as Marsh smashed 207 not out, including 12 sixes and 17 fours, to steer the Academy to 404 for 3, sharing a second-wicket stand of 274 with George Bailey (152). Kenya were never in the hunt, and although Tony Suji made 48 and Nehemiah Odhiambo hit a quick 41 from 31 deliveries, the margin of victory was a massive 205 runs.

In the third match, the Academy were restricted to 293 for 6, with Adam Voges making 126. Kenya were going well at 115 for 2, but they stumbled after the dismissal of David Obuya for 50, and only Tony Suji (85) enabled them to reached 234 for 8.
