Ranji Trophy Super League round-up, 1st round, 4th day

Seamers bowl Andhra to fine win

Cricinfo staff

November 26, 2006

Andhra 202 and 168 beat Haryana 129 and 127 (Kalyankrishna 5-41) by 114 runs
Scorecard

Syed Sahabuddin and D Kalyankrishna, Andhra's opening bowlers, shared nine wickets between them, leading them to a fine 114-run win against Haryana at Rohtak. Chasing 242 for a win, Haryana resumed the day on 92 for 3 but lost Shafiq Khan, the set batsman, in the fifth over of the game. Andhra's new-ball pairing then took over, shooting out the next six wickets for the addition of just 34 runs. Four of the last five batsmen fell for single-digit scores as Andhra got off to a fine start to the season.

Hyderabad 385 drew with Maharashtra 221 (Jadhav 66, Ojha 6-84)
Scorecard

Pragyan Ojha, Hyderabad's talented chinaman bowler, snapped up six wickets to enable Hyderabad to earn first-innings points in a rain-affected opening game against Maharashtra at Karad. Resuming at 20 for no loss overnight, after Hyderabad had posted 385 in their first innings, Maharashtra eased to 158 for 1 before the collapse began. Ojha broke the promising 70-run stand between Harshad Khadiwale and Hrishikesh Kanitkar to open the floodgates. Sridharan Sriram, playing his first game for Maharashtra after moving from Tamil Nadu, fell for a second-ball duck, lbw to the part-timer VVS Laxman before Ojha cleaned up the tail.

Saurashtra 342 and 272 for 6 (Kotak 118, Pujara 71) drew with Uttar Pradesh 450
Scorecard

Saurashtra's batsmen gained some batting practice in their second innings but Uttar Pradesh had done enough to gain first-innings points from the encounter at Kanpur. On a day which was only of academic interest, with a result out of the question, Sitanshu Kotak, with a fine 118, and Cheteshwar Pujara, with 71, steered Saurashtra to 272 for 6. Pratik Mehta chipped in with a useful 42 but none of it was going to stop Uttar Pradesh from gaining two first-innings points.
