International Panel umpire to officiate at Lord's

Hariharan all set for umpiring debut in Tests

Krishna Hariharan, one of the three representatives from India in the ICC's International Panel of umpires, is all set to make his Test debut as an on-field umpire. Hariharan, who has already officiated in 16 one-day internationals, has been chosen, along with Darryl Harper, to stand in the first Test between England and Bangladesh at Lord's from May 26-30.

Reacting to the appointment, a visibly delighted Hariharan told The Indian Express: "I am very happy to start off at Lord's. It takes so many years for an umpire to officiate at Lord's and here I am, standing in my very first match at that particular venue." Hariharan, 49, started umpiring first-class games in India in 1991 and has so far stood in more than 100 such games. He has already officiated in five Tests as the third umpire, the latest of which was the recently concluded first Test between India at Pakistan at Mohali.

Hariharan will become the first Indian umpire to officiate in a Test match since S Venkataraghavan retired from the Elite Panel after umpiring in 73 Tests and 52 ODIs.
