ICC approves new grounds - but none yet in Dhaka

Bangladesh gets three new international venues

Cricinfo staff

January 31, 2006

Three new grounds in Bangladesh have been given the ICC's approval to stage international cricket.

Bogra's Shaheed Chandu Stadium and the Chittagong Divisional Stadium got the approval to host Test matches while the Khulna Divisional Stadium can only stage one-day internationals. The Bangladesh board received the news from the ICC following an inspection of five potential venues by Roshan Mahanama earlier this month.

Decisions on two grounds venues in Dhaka - Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur and the Fatullah Stadium - were delayed because building work has yet to be completed. As the Bangabandhu National Stadium has been decommissioned for cricket, there will not be any international matches in Dhaka when Sri Lanka visit next month.
