Mohammad Rafique and Javed Omar have been left out of Bangladesh's squad for the Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa.

The team will be led by Mohammad Ashraful, with Mashrafe Mortaza as his deputy. The selectors have picked three new names - Junaid Siddique, Nazimuddin and Ziaur Rahman - for the two-week tournament. Alok Kapali has been recalled, while Nadif Chowdhury, whose only international experience is a Twenty20 game against Zimbabwe, finds a place in the squad.

Rafique had opted out of the ODIs against Sri Lanka following a family emergency while Omar did play in the series, which Bangladesh lost 3-0. Former captains Habibul Bashar and Khaled Mashud also continued to be out of favour after being dropped for the ODIs against Sri Lanka. The other players to miss out include Tushar Imran, Shahriar Nafees, Shahadat Hossain and Mehrab Hossain jnr.

Bangladesh have been drawn in Group A, along with hosts South Africa and West Indies.

Squad: Mohammad Ashraful (capt), Mashrafe Mortaza, Alok Kapali, Abdur Razzak, Aftab Ahmed, Syed Rasel, Farhad Reza, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah, Junaid Siddique, Nazimuddin, Nadif Chowdhury, Ziaur Rahman
