Western Province's first choice wicketkeeper since Richie Ryall
retired a couple of seasons back. An athletic wicketkeeper with
a flair for the spectacular, although it doesn't always come off.
A useful right-handed batsman, especially in the limited-overs
competition, he hits the ball hard and straight and has played
a few invaluble innings for Province already. At the moment,
Kirsten is a wicketkeeper who can bat, but with a few big scores
in the 1997/8 season we could see another Kirsten seriously
challenging for a berth in the South African team, especially so
if his good understanding with incumbent test spinner Paul Adams
is taken into account.
