 Profile

East London born and bred Justin Peter Kreusch is a promising allrounder -hard-hitting upper-order batsman and right-arm medium-pace bowler.

He was thrust into the limelight at the age of 23 in 2003-04 when he was entrusted with the captaincy of the Border team in controversial circumstances in succession to

Border's most successful captain, international Pieter Strydom. To be fair, he did well, but possibly too much was expected of him at that age.

He had been groomed by Border for captaincy, having come through the Border Cricket Academy and captaining the Border B (non-first-class) team with great success. The establishment of the franchise system of six teams in South Africa in 2004-05, however, saw Strydom return for one season as skipper before retiring, but the captaincy of the Warriors in 2005-06 went to international spinner Robin Peterson, with Mark Bruyns as his deputy.

Kreusch meanwhile has become a most important member of the Warriors squad, usually opening the batting in limited-overs matches and putting a brake on things with his clever medium-pacers.

In March 2006 he captured his first five-wicket haul in first-class cricket when he captured 5-31 against the Cape Cobras at Stellenbosch, including a hat-trick and four wickets in five balls.

A century at first-class cricket has eluded him so far (highest 91), but he has so far scored three limited-overs centuries.

He is also a safe fielder, usually in the slips or at cover. (Peter Martin)
