Australia v New Zealand, 3rd ODI, Brisbane

New Zealand delay team announcement

Cricinfo staff

December 9, 2004

With the Chappell-Hadlee series hanging in the balance, New Zealand announced they would not name a team until they had a chance to assess the Brisbane wicket on which they play the decider on Friday.

"Unfortunately the rain has prevented us from getting the information we need in order to finalise our selections," said John Bracewell, New Zealand's coach. "So we are keeping our options open and won't be rushing in to naming our side until we are confident with the knowledge we have on the wicket we are going to play on."

After winning the first one-dayer, New Zealand succumbed in the second despite fighting knocks by Kyle Mills, Chris Cairns and Daniel Vettori. They also had bad news in the form of a rotator cuff tear for Chris Harris. Tama Canning, who had played three one-dayers against Pakistan recently, was named as Harris's replacement.
