Bangladesh A struggle to stay afloat

March 21, 2007

Sri Lanka A 547 lead Bangladesh A 163 and 132 for 4 by 274 runs
Scorecard

Bangladesh A were in serious trouble after succumbing to just 163 all out in their first innings, in response to Sri Lanka A's mammoth 547 for 6 declared. They lost their last four wickets for only 31 runs. Sri Lanka A then batted again, picked up some quick runs and put Bangladesh A's batsmen right back on the spot.

Sri Lanka A, who could have enforced the follow-on had they wanted, chose instead to have a dash. They batted 32 overs and lost four wickets, but managed 132, leaving Bangladesh A with a target of 517 runs. Kaushal Silva and Mahela Udawatte both chipped in with 30s.

When Bangladesh A batted again they managed to hand in there for a bit, but wickets falling at regular intervals meant that batsmen got starts but did not go on to make it count. Jahurul Islam went quickly but after that Mehrab Hossain Jr (41) and Nazimuddin (45) shored up the innings. But both of them fell before reaching half-centuries and when the day ended Bangladesh A were 110 for 3.
