Profile
Aspiring to be an allrounder like his idol Wasim Akram, Imad Wasim made his first-class debut for Islamabad against Quetta in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in January 2007, smashing 88 runs in a win. Part of the Pakistan team that won the Under-19s World Cup in 2006, Imad was appointed captain in July 2007. Imad, a left-arm spinner, led the team to a 1-1 draw in the Youth Tests and 3-1 win in the one-dayers in England, followed up by a convincing 5-0 victory in the one-dayers at home against Australia, in which he bagged 12 wickets at 12.91 apiece.
Another twelve-wicket haul followed in the narrow 3-2 loss in the one-dayers to Bangladesh Under-19s. In January 2008, Imad was named captain of Pakistan U-19s for the World Cup in Malaysia. If he is unable to make a career in cricket, the Swansea-born player might well be practicing medicine. Cricinfo staff February 2008
