Pentangular Cup 2007

Ajmal bowls KRL to big win

April 6, 2007

Offspinner Saeed Ajmal snapped up his 12th five-wicket haul as Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) executed a thumping innings and 59 run win against North West Frontier Province (NWFP)-Balochistan at the United Bank Limited (UBL) Sports Complex.

Resuming the final day on 137 for 3, having conceded a 300-run lead, NWFP-Balochistan didn't put up much of a fight in their second innings. Umar Javed, batting on 38 overnight, completed his half-century but fell to Ajmal soon after. Ajmal received good support from his bowling partners - medium-pacer Jaffer Nazir scalped two wickets early in the day while legspinner Azhar Ali contributed two more later.

Ajmal, who had already picked up two wickets at the end of the third day, continued his good work. Once he had removed the top-scorer Javed, he went on to nip out wicketkeeper Ahmed Said (33) and Faisal Irfan. Said and Arshad Khan (24) delayed the inevitable with handy knocks but couldn't prevent NWFP-Balochistan from going down tamely.
