Ramiz Raja

India v Pakistan, 3rd ODI, Kanpur

Ramiz Raja: Pakistan need three-dimensional players

November 11, 2007

In his analysis of the third ODI between India and Pakistan in Kanpur, Ramiz Raja says it's an opportunity lost for Pakistan, who failed to carry the momentum from the win in Mohali. He feels Pakistan needs players who can chip in with both bat and ball, besides making a contribution in the field

I agree with Ramiz to try Shoaib Malik at the opening slot instead of Kamran, who should be rested at teh moment. There is a news that PCB has sent Sarfraz as backup of Kamran Akmal. I think he should get a chance behind the stumps, as a new lad and its a great opportunity for him to start his ODI career against INDIA. Sohail Tanvir has bowled excellently yesterday, however Shoaib Malik should learn how to change his bowlers on the regular basis, in case if the opposition is attacking our bowlers, as the case was yesterday, when Yvraj and Dhoni were attacking and he was persisting with spinners and not introducing his attack bowlers. Also senior players like Yousuf, Younus and Shahid should not hesitate to give their advise. They should remember they are all playing for Pakistan. FOR HEAVEN SAKE, CREATE A PSSION OF WINNING IN THE TEAM AND KEEP ON FIGHTING TILL THE LAST MOMENT AS YESTERDAY SALMAN FOUGHT ALONE AND HAD SOMEONE SUPPORTED HIM, THE RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT.

it was a huge mistake by pakistan to make afridi open. in the 2nd odi they chased 320 odd did afridi open in it?? yes pakistan are having problems at the top but afridi is by no way at all the solution to this problem. abdul rehamn can be dropped and another specalist opener could play but pakistan would only be left with 5 bowlers which itself is a risk. another solution could be that which ramiz has suggested of malik to open which is the best option at the moment. considering pakistan make malik to open, but still pakistan's batting line up is weak. i think rehman shoud be dropped and instead of him fawad alam should play because he can bowl and bat as well. this will add another dimension to pakistani side or hafiz could be played instead of rehman but he should bat at position 5 or 6 because he is a clean striker of the bowl. but hafeez is not in the squad so i think they should stick with fawad instead of rehamn and malik to open along side salman

I think Rameez is right,Malik is wasting himself he should lead from the from b/c he is not a sloger he is a proper batsman and with Salman Butt back in form he can destroy the opposition also i think Fawad Alam should be given a chance instead of Abdur Rehman b/c Fawad will provide a batting option also.

Does Pakistan lack wicket keepers ??! I dont think so . Then why Kamran Akmal still. He is more like a footballer scoring an own goal !!! A wicketkeeper lifts the morale of the whole team cheering them encouraging them. What if the wicketkeeper himself is demoralised cuz of his lack of form ! Shoaib Malik opening the batting is a gud idea. Salman, Shoaib, Younis, Yousuf, Misbah, Afridi looks a solid top n middle order. This way the top four would be the most consistent ones followed by the finishers Misbah ( Well almost ) n Afridi followed by the WK. Kamran Akmal is like a sitting duck at the top of the order.

I am in agreement with Ramiz but he failed to mention one member of this current pakistani team who is quite franky letting the team down !! That is Kamran Akmal once again today he showed his incapability with his gloves ( shoaibs first ball ) and then with the bat. The player is out of form and is not providing anything conductive for the team. One only has to remember the likes of wasim Bari, salim yousuf, rashid latif and moin khan to really see what a massive weak spot this position is for pakistan... forget Mr Malik's assertion today regarding akmals past exploits lets not forget the chap catches 1 out of 3 catches. His body language, his facial expressions shows clearly of a player out of sorts but looks like they will persist with Akmal as i guess more humiliation is required !!!

Yes,i do agree that Shoaib Malik should open the inning definitely in ODI.Right from start droping Ganguly on first ball was not encourging for India but more disastrous for Pakistan.Kamran Akmal needs rest so that confidence could be reproduced. Decision to bowl first was wrong today. It is true that Pakistan has chased runs in recent times occasionally but record would show that Pakistan were always better to bat first and past can confirm that.Under pressure Pakistan did falter in past. Fielding is another problem for Pakistan. So many physios, experts around and still it is scratchy. To be run-out,so for Yousuf is concerened it is there for another team to grab. Declaring in the post match press conference by Shoaib Malik that 292 run target was difficult to chase could not be encourging for the team. This meant they lost the match even before coming to face first ball.Shoib should remember that Pakistan got the title of Cornered Tigers years ago.

I am completely agree with Ramiz , I think this Pakistani team lacks the spark which they were having at the time of Wasim ans Waqar. They should call back all rounder Abdul Razzaq , they certainly need replacement for kamran Akmal who is dropping easy catches regularly. And more thing Shoaib malik should do is when Dhoni and yuvraj come together on the wicket bring on Shoaib Akhtar.Tha can be the most effective way to restrict them building partnership

I agree with Ramiz, It was a perfect opportunity for Pakistan, to carry the momentum from Mohali to Kanpur, as you have seen Pakistan always starts well in the beginning but in in the middle order it is struggling. The main tempo of the game as specially when you are batting second is to pace the innings. The middle overs between 22nd to 34th are very crucial. I think Pakistan have lost the game after 36th over.

I do agree with Rameez Raja to a certain extent.I think the main problem for Pakistan is lack of disciplined bowling and with a new rule of free hit after no ball its actually giving a lot of opportunity for india to score some 30 odd runs extra including no balls wides and run scored on free hits. Pakistan batting is not so weak as it looks like as all of us know once the batsman are in full flow its very difficult to stop them.I think what they also missing is a good and steady opening pair and a lack of Form of Mohammad Yousuf. The way he bats normally with a very good batting technique and good strike rate is yet to be seen in this series so far. One bat has to play through out the innings and at least 2 from the top order batsman should score runs rapidly. I think the lack of 2 specialist genuine spinners is also one of the reason where pakistan is lagging. Anyway its high time they change the gears and come out as a better opponant as the next match is a decider for them.

Rameez is right on the money. Malik should open along with Butt. Afridi is best left for the middle to final overs (anywhere from 35 to 45).
