David Lloyd

Sri Lanka v England, 2nd Test, Colombo, 4th day

David Lloyd: Sri Lanka just delayed things

December 12, 2007

Sri Lanka were a little bit slow in getting where they wanted to, and Mahela Jayawardene, the captain, was really frustrated when the play was called off due to bad light. The weather forecast for the day five is not too good, and England might just manage to escape with a draw.

Yes I do agree about your comments on declaration. Personally I felt Sri Lanka should have try to accelerate scoring rate & enhance the lead or else they should have declared much earlier leaving some time for them to get few wickets on day 4. B'cos of what sri lanka did they might not have time to bowl england out or even they bowl them out Sri Lanka might not have time to chase a target... I think this has been a case with all sub continent captains. They are looking to be on the safer side & win the match without been aggresive. same thing happen to India yesterday. Really they would have won the match if they declare much earlier.....
