World Cricket League Division Two, 1st day

Namibia and UAE register easy wins

Cricinfo staff

November 24, 2007

Namibia confirmed their position as one of the favourites for the World Cricket League Division Two title with a crushing eight-wicket win against Denmark at the Wanderers Ground in Windhoek. Denmark crashed for an embarrassing 77 in little more than 30 overs as Ian van Zyl caused major problems with 4 for 17. Only two Danish batsmen reached double figures and the home side needed less than 12 overs to knock off the runs with Gerrie Snyman cracking a rapid, unbeaten 60 to take away the man-of-the-match award.

Arshad Ali's all-round excellence eased UAE to a convincing seven-wicket victory against Uganda at the United Ground with 51 balls to spare. Ali returned the best analysis with 3 for 32 as his side stifled Uganda for 194 after sending them in. Ali then topscored with an unbeaten 79 and received good support from Khurram Khan, who made 62 not out. Khan also bowled well, with two wickets. Ronald Ssemanda was Uganda's highest scorer, with 72 before he was run out.

Hemin Desai's fifty for Oman proved just too good for Argentina in an 18-run victory at the Centre for Cricket Development Ground. Oman put on 269, led by the opener Desai, and then used nine bowlers in pursuit of their eventual win. Alejandro Ferguson's push from the middle gave Argentina some hope, but he was to remain unbeaten on 66 from 52 balls.
