Carib Beer Series, 4th round, 3rd day

Windwards trounce CCC in three days

Cricinfo staff

March 3, 2008

Windward Islands 347 (Smith 159) and 51 for 0 beat Combined Campuses and Colleges 149 (Walton 63) and 248 (Reifer 101, Wilkinson 50) by ten wickets
Scorecard

The Combined Colleges and Campuses (CCC) hardly proved a challenge for Windward Islands, who bounced back from two early-round losses with a ten-wicket win on day three at the Beausejour Cricket Stadium. CCC did better in their second innings, thanks to a hundred from veteran Floyd Reifer, but a target of 51 with plenty of time to spare was never going to bother Windwards.

CCC resumed on 96 for 3, following-on 198 runs behind Windwards, and were dismissed for 248 at tea. Reifer's 101, from 210 balls and with 14 boundaries, was a fine effort but far from enough. CCC lost wickets at regular intervals and went into lunch on 180 for 7, after which Reifer was run out following his hundred. Shane Shillingford, the offspinner, continued his impressive bowling form for the Windwards with 4 for 69 off 31 overs and the target was just 51. Man-of-the-Match Devon Smith, for his first-innings 159, duly finished unbeaten on 27.

Trinidad and Tobago 257 and 247 for 6 (Bravo 95, Ramdin 59*) lead Jamaica 345 (Nash 102) by 159 runs
Scorecard

Dwayne Bravo's 95 and an unbeaten 59 from Denesh Ramdin gave Trinidad & Tobago a 159-run lead over Jamaica at stumps on day three at the Queen's Park Oval. The hosts had been 111 for 5 but the efforts of the two West Indies team-mates helped them to 247 for 6 at the close and set up prospects of an exciting final day.

Bravo missed a fourth regional hundred when he was trapped leg before to left-arm spinner Nikita Miller's final delivery of the day. That ended a 136-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Ramdin, who faced 137 deliveries and 156 minutes at the crease, with just two fours. T&T began 88 runs behind Jamaica and stumbled to 66 for 3 before Daren Ganga (40), Bravo and Ramdin stepped up.

Earlier Jamaica, resuming on their overnight 330 for 8, were dismissed for 345. Brendan Nash, unbeaten on 96, completed a maiden first-class century but was soon out to Ravi Rampaul, another international. Rampaul was the top wicket-taker with 4 for 78.

Leeward Islands 166 for 2 (Morton 73*, Hodge 3*) v Barbados
Scorecard

Another day, another wash-out. There was no play for the second day running as wet conditions forced the abandonment of the third day's play between Leeward Islands and Barbados at Salem Park. Not a ball was bowled because of early morning rain and light afternoon showers that again left soft areas on the edge of the pitch.

Though there was light rain around 12:45 pm and 2:05 pm, the weather improved but umpires Clancy Mack and Goaland Greaves ruled that play was still not possible.
