Gamini Silva, a reputable all-round cricketer who excelled in first-class cricket for Police SC was inducted to the ICC's International Panel of Umpires and Referees as Sri Lanka's third umpire in 2002. Silva was a right-hand bat and right-arm medium-pace bowler who represented Police SC for many years. He officiated his first Test against South Africa in 2000 and his first ODI in 1999, but has been ignored for further international engagements for the past three years although he has often been in the panel as a third umpire for international matches played at home.
